Let's talk!

Hey all,

Let's try to get some conversation going here again!

What's everyone been up to lately?  Discovered any new tips?  My friend Sharyl (shah-rl) has started using plastic bread tabs as knitting bobbins for short lengths for Fair Isle projects - I'm going to adapt this trick to try with lengths of embroiery thread.

We're hoping to find a small extra freezer this fall the expand our ability to take advantage of food sales and preserving.   When we get into a house, we plan to buy a big chest freezer, but for now, even a small freezer (that doesn't cost a bomb to run) would double our freezer space, or close!

What about you?

Absolutely!  They don't seem common here, though - I belong to several freecycle lists - 3 groups in Toronto, as well as some for the outlying areas.  I check the local ones daily and the outlying ones when we're making a trip in that direction anyway.

In freecycle and Craigslist I've only seen one freezer offered, and the posters were very upfront about saying it didn't work as a freezer - but it made a great electric beer cooler for parties!  Neither DH nor I know enough about repairing/diagnosing freezers (yet, LOL) to deal with something like that yet.

Come on, all - let's create some life here again! ~

RE: Let's talk!

Not to much is new and exciting on this end. We are getting settled into the house we just bought.

I have been cooking once but making double batches so that I can freeze 1/2 for another meal at a later date.

I am debating on crocheting a rug for my dd but I need yarn for that so unless the price is right it won't be happening for a little bit anyhow.

I will be starting to put aside money for our emergency fund and get that back up and running so I am pretty excited about that.

RE: Let's talk!

I'm a newbie. My latest project is knitting socks for my family. I am also going to be working on a rug for our circle time (reading)

Freecycle is a terrific resource.  In Edmonton it's been renamed Earthcycle for copyright reasons, but works much the same way.  I have picked up a number of useful items that way, and have disposed of things I didn't need.

There is a wide variety of items offered up - everything from plastic bags to vehicles in working order.
