I use Skype (VOIP based) for most of my calls- pc to pc and pc to landlines across Canada and the US- free calls till end of the year or atleast however long the trial period/Beta Stage is. biggest downside to skype is you need internet and like any voice messenger environment the other party must be online but you could coordinate your calls. Currently trying to get skype to work on my cell.

I also use Skype for my long distance. I pay $35 for unlimited calls for 1 year. Works very well and not to mention the savings.
