Do you all have separate

accounts for all you budgeting needs???  I was thinking on this today because a friend of mine told me she has all her accounts separated.  She saves monthly for long term accounts like taxes, municipal taxes, school taxes, drivers liscence, emergency fund, vacation etc.  So I totalled up all my separate savings stuff and I would need 19 different accounts to separate everything.  To me this is overwhelming, but I do see the advantage of not taking various sums at different times of the year from the same bulk savings/needs/bills account..I did decide that I need to change my system, what are some ideas you have for me?  Currently I have a predetermined figure that I put every month into one single account that includes all those things like school supplies, sport fees, car registration, taxes, etc.  It is manageable enough because I took the time to plan out exactly how much needs to go in there every month to meet the bill when it finally comes around.  I have a second account for savings and a third for immediate emergencies.

RE: Do you all have separate

We have a few separate accts, we have them for
-ef
-auto(repairs and maintenance)
-medical(for prescriptions for us and for the animals appts)
-gifts(xmas, birthdays and everything else)
-insurance(car and house)

We are thinking of changing the auto one to include insurance and then the insurance one would become one for the house, insurance and repairs.

We like having the separate accts, it's easier to figure out how much you have for each category.

Debt including the mortgage  $44,123.22(Apr. 20/07)

EF $234.29

RE: Do you all have separate

Right now, we have three accounts:

1 checking, used for day-to-day needs - grocery, gas, etc.
2 savings - one is currently "wedding money" - the cash gifts we got which will go towards chest freezer, washing machine, etc. when we move into a house

- the other is currently empty, but is intended as our "house down payment" account.  The funds from a U.S. savings acct. not yet transferred up here will go there, as well as a couple hundred each month from now until...well, until we buy, and any "found" money (tax returns, etc.)

The "wedding" acct. will probably become general savings once its emptied out.

We've talked about opening at least one more account, but havne't yet...the above seems to be working for us for now!

Looking for dedicated budgeters

Hello,

I am a journalist working on an article for a national women's magazine about budgeting. I am looking to speak with women over 40 (the magazine's demographic) who handle their family's finances and who have a rigorous budget, with certain amounts allotted each month for groceries, gas, entertainment, clothing, etc.

If you would be interested in sharing your story for the article, please email me at dan@danbortolotti.com by November 23.

You can check my journalistic credentials at http://www.danbortolotti.com

Many thanks,
Dan Bortolotti
